In the afternoon of Feb. 1, the Spring Festival Celebration was held by the College of International Education of NAU. Over thirty students from more than 10 countries such as Pakistan, Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Azerbaijan, joined the celebration. The theme of the celebration is Spring Festival, Customs and Culture.
The activity started with the address of Prof. Han Jiqin, Dean of the College of International Education. She warmly welcomed both Chinese and international students. After a brief overview of NAU’s international cooperation and the importance of student internalization at NAU’s internationalization strategy and the Belt and Road initiative, she encouraged international students to work hard for a better community with shared future for mankind.
Later on, videos on the Chinese New Year’s origin, customs and celebrations were shown to the participants, with games and Q&As followed up. International students also shared their most important festivals and customs to enrich mutual understanding among different countries.
Assoc. Prof. Li Yuan, Assoc. Dean of the College of International Education, introduced Spring Festival customs, such as Paper-cutting and pasting New Year Couplets . After watching Prof. Wang’s live performance of calligraphy writing, international students started their joyful practices of paper-cutting and the Chinese words of FU and Happy New Year! Some of them made photos and shared with their families and friends about the Spring festival celebration!
