On December 11, Vice Premier Liu Yandong of the State Council attended a symposium on the work of the Confucius institutes in Xi 'an and made a keynote report.

Liu Yandong pointed out that the Confucius Institute of Vocational Education in Ethiopia and the Confucius Institute at Egerton University in Kenya provided local employees with vocational skills and language training for the local Chinese companies, which effectively supported the implementation of the large engineering projects from the China-Africa cooperation. The Confucius Institutes have gone beyond schools to serve the enterprises and the society. The Confucius institutes integrates language teaching, cultural exchange, academic research and social services as a whole, and is a dynamic and comprehensive cultural exchange platform.

It is reported that the Confucius Institute jointly founded by our university and Egeron University in July of 2012 has given full play to the advantages of the two institutions in agricultural science and technology. A total of 22 sessions of agricultural technology training were held in Kenya. More than 820 people of local agricultural technical personnel were trained, which promoted Kenya's “2030 Vision” and played an important role in promotion of the agricultural cooperation between China and Kenya. At present, the Confucius Institute is organizing agricultural experts of China and Africa in compiling the “African agricultural practical technology series books” for six countries in Africa. The Confucius Institute also plans to operate training sessions of agricultural vocational and technical skills in Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia and other African countries.

Vice Party Secretary Liu Yingjun of our university participated in the Symposium.
